What happens in the free trial class?

Four steps, one live session, and a project your child finishes.

1
Pick a grade and a time slot
The grade you pick sets the level, tools and project for the lesson.
2
Warm up with the teacher
A few minutes to settle in, find out what your child already knows and set the goal for the session.
3
Code the project together
Your child codes alongside the teacher, concept by concept, then tries the last part on their own.
4
Present it and get a level recommendation
Your child shows what they built, and you get a clear view of their level and the right course to start with.

What the trial includes

✓A live 30 minute session with a real teacher, not a recording
✓Open to complete beginners - nothing to prepare
✓A working project your child keeps and can share
✓Completely free, with no card details asked for

Nothing to install. Your child joins from a laptop or desktop with a webcam and a stable internet connection, and parents are welcome to sit in on the whole session.

What your child will build in a free coding class

Your child picks one project and codes it live with a teacher. Each one is matched to a grade, from block coding right through to Python and AI.

Why children should learn to code

Children are full of ideas and coding helps children develop key creative skills
Turning ideas into things
Kids have no shortage of ideas. Coding gives them a way to actually build one - a game, a story, an app - and see it work on screen.
A child learns to code in front of a computer and prepares for a bright future
Comfort with failing and fixing
Code rarely works first time. Debugging teaches children to read an error, form a theory and test it - patience and persistence that carry well past coding.
A child plays with educational toys and learns new things
Understanding the tech they use
Once kids have built an app or trained an AI model themselves, the technology they use daily stops being magic and starts being something they can question.

Coding for kids at Codingal is appropriate for Elementary, Middle and High school students

Students attending coding class

A child who joins in Grade 1 and stays with Codingal does not repeat themselves. They begin with drag and drop blocks on Scratch and Code.org, type their first Python around Grade 4, move into JavaScript, websites and Android apps through middle school, and reach data science, machine learning, competitive programming and AP Computer Science A by Grade 12. Each stage assumes what the one before it taught.

Joining later is just as normal. The free trial lesson places your child at the right point in that pathway regardless of when they start, so a Grade 8 beginner and a Grade 8 student with three years of coding behind them both get a course that fits. Every track is STEM.org accredited and ends in a certificate.

FAQs about coding for kids

Are Codingal's coding classes suitable for a complete beginner?+

Yes. Every grade has a beginner entry point, and children who have never coded before start with drag and drop blocks rather than typing. Students who already have some experience are placed further along instead. The free trial lesson is what decides which.

What is the difference between 1:1 and small group classes?+

1:1 classes move entirely at your child's pace and the teacher can change direction mid-lesson. Small group classes cap at four students and add peer discussion and collaborative problem solving. Both are live, teacher-led and project based.

How long is each class, and how long does a course run?+

Each session runs 45 to 60 minutes. Course length depends on the track - shorter programs finish in a couple of months, while the full grandmaster pathways run 12 to 18 months.

Will my child only make games?+

No. Games are one part of the journey and usually the hook. Children also build animations, interactive stories, mobile apps, websites, AI projects and data tools, and the balance shifts towards real-world projects as they get older.

Will my child learn real programming languages, or only block coding?+

Blocks are the starting point, not the destination. Typed Python usually begins around Grade 4, followed by HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and then Java for students heading towards AP Computer Science A or competitive programming.

Do children learn AI and data science?+

Yes, at every level. Younger children do guided AI activities such as image recognition and translation, middle schoolers work with datasets and charts, and high schoolers train machine learning models end to end.

How are the classes actually taught?+

Every class is live with a teacher, never a recording. Your child codes alongside the teacher concept by concept, then applies the new concept to a task on their own and presents the result at the end of the session.

Can parents sit in on the free trial class?+

Yes. Parents are welcome to observe the whole trial lesson. Most find it the quickest way to judge their child's current level and see how the teaching works.

How will I know how my child is progressing?+

Parent teacher meetings are held after the 6th and 12th sessions, then after every 12th session. You receive a progress report with links to your child's projects after each one, plus regular email updates, and you can audit a live class or review recordings of completed ones.

Does my child get a certificate?+

Yes. Students earn STEM.org accredited certificates on completing a program, along with milestone certificates and badges as they go. Certificates can be downloaded, shared and added to a school portfolio.

Is there homework between classes?+

Only short, optional practice activities and quizzes that extend the project from class. Nothing that feels like traditional schoolwork.

What device does my child need?+

A laptop or desktop with a webcam and a stable internet connection. A tablet or iPad works too if it has an external keyboard and a working mic and camera. Nothing needs to be installed beforehand.

Is the class schedule flexible?+

Yes. You choose the days and times that suit your family, and slots can be rescheduled as school terms and activities change.

How do I pick the right course for my child?+

Book the free trial first. The teacher gauges your child's pace, confidence and interests during the session and then recommends a specific track, rather than asking you to choose from a catalog cold.

How does Codingal choose its teachers?+

Only the top 1% of applicants are hired. Each is a Computer Science graduate, assessed on technical and communication skills, background checked, and then observed and given feedback continuously once they start teaching.
